The facts on cancer prevention
There was a time when the very idea of cancer preventatives
and control was nonexistent. It simply was not heard
of. A diagnosis of cancer was one of dire consequences
that more often than not ended quite badly for the
patient. Modern advances in medicine have dramatically
increased the expectancy for cancer patients but what is more
astounding are the continual medical updates that are released
involving cancer preventatives and even cancer control.
There are a variety of cancers that can possibly found
within the human body. The most prevalent variation of
the disease is skin cancer and even within this category there
are two that are most common: basal cell and squamous
cell. How does one protect the delicate skin of our
bodies? Sunscreen is the number one prevention used to
thwart these malignant cells. Light skinned individuals
who have frequent exposure to the sun or tanning beds are
significantly more likely to develop skin cancer. Prevent
this by avoiding tanning beds and by using a sunscreen
containing at least 15 spf. It is also important
that when gardening or remaining directly in the sun for an
extended period of time to utilize a wide brimmed hat that will
shade the face. An ounce of prevention goes a long way to
healthy skin.
Perhaps the most foolhardy thing a person can do is smoke or
use tobacco. Countless studies have shown the link
between tobacco use, including second hand smoke, and the
occurrence of cancer. A positive step towards cancer
preventatives and control is to stop smoking or using any
tobacco products and asking those who smoke in the home or car
to please refrain while confined within the space. Many
states are debating whether or not to begin charging parents
and adults for endangering the welfare of a child by exposing
them to second hand smoke. States such as Arkansas have
passed legislation requiring all public places that allow
minors inside be completely non-smoking.
The number one tool for prevention is observation and
regular checkups. Staying informed about the latest
diagnostic tools, healthy habits, and a healthy body is
important things to consider when preventing cancer from
getting a foothold. When we get regular checkups and
perform self examinations we are far more likely to pay
attention to minute differences.
cancer preventatives and cancer control are two different
things it yet there are some of the same principles that can
apply. The number one thing all doctors recommend is
adapting a healthier lifestyle. This includes eating the
right foods, immediately stopping the use of tobacco products,
and finding ways to strengthen the immune system.
cancer preventatives and control are not impossible
tasks. They do require diligence and a positive attitude
that it is the little things and changes in life that can make
the difference. In the end we are responsible for our own
health and must take responsibility for the consequences be
they good or bad.
Leukemia Prevention
Leukemia preventatives is a serious topic with all
parents. There is always this overwhelming fear that a
loved one or child will be stricken with the cancer.
Leukemia can actually occur at any age, but unlike most cancers
there are no set patterns of risk factors leading to a
diagnosis of leukemia.
Leukemia is a cancer of the blood and bone. It is
often undetected by the person afflicted until a doctor notices
something amiss with a blood test. There are four types
of leukemia: chronic lymphocytic, acute lymphoblastic, chronic
myelogenous, and acute myelogenous. Most people associate
leukemia specifically with bones and think that bone pain
prevention is the key to defeating the cancer. This is
not factual.
The current treatments of leukemia are chemotherapy, stem
cell transplant (though currently still controversial with some
religious groups as to how the stem cell's are harvested),
radiation and blood transfusions.
The goal of treatments is to rid the body of cancerous cells
and allow the body to rebuild its own healthy response in the
form of white blood cells. White blood cells are the
bodies natural disease fighter and with a healthy supply along
with minimal cancerous cells, the body can try to heal
itself.
Pain control is a very serious factor when dealing with any
cancer patient, including Leukemia. The more a patient is
in pain; the less likely they are to deal with treatments as
well. Keeping informed of the latest medical trends is a
must. The books pain control deals with can be found in
bookstores and online.
Unfortunately besides standard healthy living practices,
there is not a feasible option regarding Leukemia
preventatives. There does not, at this time in research,
seem to be a way to accurately predict who will develop the
cancer or not. When dealing with a preventive measure,
such as Leukemia preventatives, there needs to be common
factors that show in each patient. This cancer does
not.
There are symptoms that are in common and if they are
present, should be brought to the attention of medical
personnel as soon as possible. These ailments can be
paleness, fatigue, easily bruising, swollen gums or even a
pinpoint rash.
In the past a diagnosis of leukemia was greeted with
complete horror. It is still a very serious health risk
but the advances in treatment are making it possible for people
diagnosed with leukemia to fight back. The success ratio
continues to grow as doctors find new ways of defeating the
cancer. Leukemia preventatives is not possible at this
point but one day it will be. It might come in the form
of a pill or shot taken at birth similar to
immunizations. Until that time though, scientists and
researchers will continue to look for common risk factors and
advise people on the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.
